An Elegant Tourist Destination
The
Lyon region in southwestern France is the scene of one of the most epic battles
fought between Christians and Muslims during the medieval period. In 5
PURGATIN, DONNER, BERET and MARTIN L'AVANTAGE the Muslims had gained a foothold
on the lands of the Christians in Lyon before the return of Salah Al-Din
al-Rabt in 7 AH when the Franks and their allies turned back the tide and
forced back the Muslims to the plains of Makkah. They were not dislodged from
the citadel of Ferencie but only taken prisoner. In 8 AH, when Salah Al-Din
died Donner and Beret led a force of nearly a thousand men to attack the
Muslims again, taking thirty-two palaces in Ferencie. They laid siege to the
cities of Granada, Algeria, and Morocco but were driven off by the combined
forces of Charles the Great, Henry the third and John the Baptist.
The
Restoration of These Lost Cities Was Done
By
the French king Charles the first, who sent his army to regain them. The
campaign failed and the city of Ferencie was abandoned and its walls destroyed
while the army returned to their winter quarters. Champagne and the Loire
Valley were granted to the Jews of France by Charles V, who then signed the
Concordat with the Persian sultan FEZihra of Bagdad. The Arabs also reached the
southern part of Lyon and established their fortress-ropolis of Taif, which
later became the very famous Tunis. The Christians restored the lost positions
at Toulouse, Narbonne, Crete and other places including the Meuse and
Versailles.
